There are dozens of meal delivery services out there, but only one can claim to be inspired by Martha Stewart: Martha & Marley Spoon.

How Does Martha & Marley Spoon Work?

Martha Stewart gave her name to Martha & Marley Spoon, so you know it must be good! This meal delivery service sends fresh, pre-portioned meals to your door each week. Each meal kit comes with seasonal ingredients and Martha’s favorite spice blends, plus easy-to-follow 6-step recipe cards. Thanks to Martha & Marley Spoon, you can skip the meal planning and get straight to the important stuff: cooking and eating.

What Does Martha & Marley Spoon Offer?

Each week, 10 days before your delivery, Martha & Marley Spoon will send you an email with weekly recipes. The menu updates each week with 22 recipes from five categories: Health & Diet, Vegetarian & Vegan, Meat & Fish, Under 30 Minutes, and Family-Friendly. Some of the recipes fit into multiple categories. You can schedule up to 7 weeks in advance.

Martha & Marley Spoon creates each weekly menu according to seasons, events, and holidays. In summer you’ll find lots of grilling recipes, in September back-to-school meals, and then there are themed meals around Christmas and Thanksgiving. Although this service deals primarily with lunch and dinner, it sometimes offers breakfast recipes, side dishes, deserts, and add-on items like protein packs and pantry staples.

According to Martha & Marley Spoon, it always sources fruit and vegetables that are in season. It works with trusted suppliers to source the highest-quality fish, poultry, and meat; and it partners with small producers to source harder-to-find local ingredients and spices.

What’s on the Menu?

We checked out the last three weekly menus and found plenty of options for all types of eaters. Whether you and your family members are meat eaters or vegetarian/vegan, like your food spicy or plain, or have preferences like gluten-free or low-carb, you should find something you like most weeks.

For meat lovers, highlights include the rosemary-basted steak with cheesy garlic potatoes or the grilled pork tenderloin with Mexican-style corn & red cabbage slaw. Most of the meat dishes are family-friendly. If you have kids, they’ll especially like the creamy chicken piccata with egg noodles and garlic green beans.

If fish and seafood is your thing, then you’re in luck. We counted 3-4 fish/seafood meals on each weekly menu, which is at or above average for a meal delivery service. The standout is the Japanese BBQ salmon with stir-fried veggie and rice, a family-friendly meal that takes less than 30 minutes to cook. Another one we like the look of is the shrimp burrito bowl with charred peppers & crispy tortilla strips.

This service is also suitable for vegetarians, although we have to say the vegan meals are lacking (as most vegetarian meals come with dairy). From a look at the vegetarian options, the best ones include the one-pot crispy gnocchi Florentine with red pepper pesto & ricotta, as well as the chickpea and carrot falafel with tzatziki and spinach salad.

What’s It Gonna Cost Me?

Martha & Marley Spoon has plans for 2 people or 4 people, with a choice of anything from 2-6 meals per week. The price gets lower when you order more meals. The most you’ll pay per portion is $10.25 for 4 meals (2 meals per week for 2 people). The least you’ll pay is $6.39 per portion for 24 meals (6 meals for 4 people).

No matter what plan you choose, you’re never locked in to anything beyond the coming week’s delivery. To skip a week, simply lock in to your account and go to the Settings tab up to 5 days before the delivery date. You can also switch plans at any time.

Shipping

One downside to this service is that shipping costs $8.99, no matter how much you order or how long you stay a customer.

Getting Your Box

Currently, Martha & Marley Spoon delivers to most of the contiguous part (lower 48) of the United States. As a testament to its popularity, it also has services in Australia and six European countries. Your chilled recipe box arrives with separate dish bags that sort your ingredients by recipe for easy grab-and-go cooking.

Help & Support

Unlike many of its competitors, Martha & Marley Spoon doesn’t offer phone support. The only way of getting in touch is to send an email (contact@marleyspoon.com) or use the live chat function. It also has an extensive FAQs page where you’ll probably find answers to most questions you have.

So, What’s for Dinner?

If you’re looking for fresh, seasonally appropriate meals endorsed by none other than Martha Stewart herself, than this is the only place to find it. With an extensive weekly menu containing a strong selection of meat, fish/seafood, and vegetarian meals, Martha & Marley Spoon is the perfect meal delivery provider for families with a wide variety of tastes.
