How Does Home Chef Work ?
Signing up for Home Chef is a snap. Just go on the website where you’ll be asked to fill out some personal details and highlight your food preferences to help the company hone in on the types of fare to offer you. Select the meal plan you want, set your delivery schedule, and pick your first round of meals. Your first week of meals will come on your set delivery date, in a box with clear and easy recipe cards and pre-portioned ingredients that are ready for you to throw together. It’s that easy.
What Does Home Chef Offer?
After you’ve signed up, Home Chef will automatically assign you some of its top meals, but you can easily change these selections. The selections you get from then on will be somewhat affected by your personal taste profile, which you filled out during sign up. You can tweak this profile at any time.
When it comes to variety, every week you’ll get to choose from 18 different meals, including 5-minute lunches. You’ll also be able to add a smoothie—this week you could go with a Cranberry-Pineapple Smoothie with Greek Yogurt—or a seasonal fruit basket for just $4.95 per serving.
What type of meals are we talking about? On the menu each week you’ll have some fun and healthy offerings like Vietnamese Pork Kebabs or a Cuban Steak Burrito, as well as veggie fare like Mexican Street Corn Salad and Mongolian Fried Portobellos and Peppers. You can also go with a 5-minute lunch like the Smoked Salmon Bagel Sandwich or the Penne Pasta Al Forno (both are just $7.99 per serving). And that’s just 6 out of the 18 options for one week alone.
With Home Chef you can arrange your weekly menus up to 5 weeks in advance, which can help you organize your meals. It won’t organize the rest of your deadlines or chores each week, but at least you can eat your way through the chaos with some great home-cooked meals.
What’s on the Menu?
Every week with Home Chef you get to pick from 18 different menu options. This includes 16 meals and 2 add-ons, either fresh smoothies and shakes or a seasonal fruit basket. The 16 meals include 3 vegetarian dinners and 3 “5 minute lunch” options.
What do some of these meals entail? If we take any random week’s offerings, we can see some very interesting options.

For fish lovers there’s the Brown Sugar Salmon with Ranch Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans, and if you have a hankering for beef you can go with the Sirloin Steak with Porcini Mushroom Cream Sauce and the Beef Taco Skillet, and if you’re looking for chicken, the One-Sheet Pretzel-Crusted Chicken should hit the spot. There are also ample pork options as well as fish dishes like the Pesto Shrimp Couscous.

The 5-minute lunch meals tend to be easy, quick meals you can throw together in a rush at work, such as the Steak and Blue Cheese Salad or the Chipotle Chicken Grain Bowl. And for vegetarians, there are meals like the Pear and Blue Cheese Pizza, Crispy Tofu Tacos with Sriracha Mayonnaise and Queso Fresco, and a Spaghetti with Roasted Red Pepper Cream.

And like always, you can throw in a fruit basket or a smoothie like the “Hawaiian dream smoothie,” which blends the flavors of pineapple, orange, coconut, and honey.
What’s It Gonna Cost Me?
At Home Chef, all dinner meals are priced at $9.95 per serving, and you can choose your dishes in pairs of 2, 4 or 6 servings so if you’re cooking for 2 or for the whole family, Home Chef has you covered.
Each week Home Chef offers at least one featured lunch option available for $7.99 per serving. This is just the right thing if you want to whip up something easy and healthy that will help you save a few bucks on your lunch break. You can also find a weekly breakfast at $9.95 per serving, a smoothie for $4.95 per serving, or one fruit basket, also priced at $4.95 per serving.
When it comes to meal kits, shipping can be a major part of the cost. Lucky for you though, at Home Chef whenever you place an order over $45, shipping is completely free. If you don’t cross the $45 threshold, shipping is $10, so it may be worth it to order a little more.
Getting Your Box
You don’t need to worry about being home when the package arrives. If you aren’t home, the driver will leave your box on your doorstep. The food will be inside a biodegradable, insulated box with gel packs to keep the food cold.
Currently, Home Chef delivers to 98% of the United States. In order to find out whether Home Chef can deliver to your area, just go to the website and punch in your zip code.
